Early Thursday morning 12 November, the drill tower for the first Shell/Frontier Bully drill ship was shipped from the Huisman quay in Schiedam to the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore, where it is expected to arrive mid December. Huisman, the Dutch–based specialist in heavy lifting, pipelay and drilling equipment, designed and manufactured the drilling tower and related pipe, riser and BOP handling equipment. Delivery of the equipment is in line with the delivery schedule of the new build Bully 1 vessel at Keppel Shipyard. The Huisman delivery of similar equipment for Bully 2 is planned in 5 months time.
Huisman, the Dutch-based worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, has currently expanded its heavy lifting product range with a customised range of Wind Turbine Installation Cranes. Building on the successful operation of the existing Huisman heavy lifting equipment for the installation of wind turbines and the increasing demand for customised equipment by the fast growing market for renewables, the company has now designed a range of tailor-made cranes that will be able to efficiently install current turbines, as well as future turbines.
Subsea 7's pipelay and construction vessel Seven Seas has been nominated and shortlisted for the Lloyd's List Global Awards in the category Ship of the Year. This prestigious award is granted in recognition of a vessel delivered in the past year that has set a benchmark in terms of design, innovation and efficiency.
The past decades have been professionally exciting and challenging for Huisman. We have been able to expand our initial product scope to the design and construction of an extensive range of heavy lifting, drilling, pipelay, and mooring systems. In addition, we extended our work field from a primarily Dutch market, to a global market. Aside from our head office and production facility in Schiedam, The Netherlands, we currently have offices in Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Singapore and the USA and we operate production facilities in the Czech Republic and China.
Now, we believe it is time to ensure that our external presentation fully represents our company.
Huisman's newly developed containerised drilling rig, the LOC 400, operated by the Northern Dutch Drilling Company (NDDC) for Northern Petroleum Netherlands (NPN), successfully completed its first well in Werkendam, The Netherlands. The recently delivered unit managed to drill the entire well (TD = 2,650m (8,694ft) from spud to rig release in a period of 6 weeks, with very little downtime. This is a remarkable performance considering the completely new rig design and the new drilling contractor. In addition, the 780m (2,559ft) surface hole was completed using casing while drilling techniques, which is an absolute first for the Netherlands, the depth of the surface hole by Casing While Drilling is a new record for Europe.
Huisman, the Schiedam-based worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, will open an engineering office in Enschede in July 2009. Huisman Twente, which will be the name of the Engineering branch office, will offer employment and internship/graduation opportunities in the east part of The Netherlands.
Huisman, the Dutch-based worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, has been awarded two new contracts for the design, build and commissioning of two stone dumping systems. These systems for Tideway bv, a subsidiary of DEME NV, and Royal Boskalis Westminster bv are both fast, highly automated and the world's first systems capable of accurately dumping stones up to 2,000m of water depth. The use of a gimballing tower considerably improves the operability in bad weather conditions compared to other stone dumping systems. Delivery of the systems is planned for the second half of 2010 and start of 2011. For Tideay bv this is the third and for Boskalis the second order for a Huisman designed and constructed stone dumping system.
The drilling equipment is based on the drilling mast and pipe storage in carousels as currently under construction for the "Bully" rigs, on order by Noble Drilling / Shell. The vessel will be built by Korean shipyard STX in a newly built location in Dalian, China. Huisman is responsible not only for design and building drilling equipment but also for the concept design of the entire vessel. The fact that Huisman performed the concept design allowed a highly optimized integration of the drilling equipment into the vessel from the very beginning of the design process, which resulted in a drilling vessel, that is much more compact than drillships with equal capacities. This means lower building costs and lower operational costs.
Subsea 7, one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction companies, announces the official inauguration of its new state-of-the-art deepwater flexlay vessel the ‘Seven Seas', at the Huisman premises in Schiedam today. The vessel naming ceremony was performed by Mrs Anabela Fonseca, Vice President of Sonangol, Angola's largest oil producing company.
On Tuesday 8 April 2008, Huisman acquired Bodewes Winches. Bodewes designs and builds large mooring and towing winches which are a valuable addition to the current Huisman range of products. Bodewes Winches will continue operations under their own name.

State-Secretary for Transport, Public Works and Water Management Mrs. Tineke Huizinga presented the awards on November 1st at the Maritime Awards Gala in Rotterdam.
Nordic Heavy Lift subsidiary Avonway has ordered a unique crane vessel with a record 5,000 tonne single mast lifting capacity with Singapore's Sembawang Shipyard. This means again one of the innovative designs of Dutch based companies Sea of Solutions and Huisman is put into reality. Sea of Solutions (part of Offshore Ship Designers Group) was responsible for both the concept and basic design of this monohull vessel, which has the largest single mast crane ever installed on a vessel. Huisman designed and will construct this 5,000 mt crane. The crane vessel is scheduled to enter service in March 2010.
